What does it take to clean up years of abuse at the Varanasi Ghats? Two girls; a hashtag and the willingness to get the job done.
Varanasi - the Temple Town - sacred and in dire need of a clean-up. Especially the ghats. If you've been there, then you know what we are talking about.
Temsutula Imsong, resident of Nagaland and Darshika Shah from Varanasi initiated #MissionPrabhuGhat to clean up the ghats. This was in response to PM Narendra Modi's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'.
Besides Prabhu Ghat, their mission is to keep all the ghats along river Ganga clean. The objective is to spread awareness among on cleanliness and hygiene. #MissionPrabhughat and the campaign has been a success and with mass volunteering and has even been applauded by Modi.
Appalled by the condition, they first approached the civic authorities, but it is the lack of interest that spurred the two girls to do what they did.
