Video: Aqua Regia and dissolving gold

Gold has always been considered the metal of kings. Yet even this precious metal cannot withstand the chemistry of Aqua Regia - dissolver of gold.

In this video, Prof. Martyn Poliakoff of the University of Nottingham, UK tell us a little bit more about what Aqua Regia exactly is and how it manages to dissolve gold.

(Video titled "periodicvideos | January 11, 2010 | We dissolve gold into aqua regia (a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid) for the first of our extra "Molecular Videos" series." sourced from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwnKU89CCdI&NR=1)
